TOPIC: Arts and Culture – The Charlotte Way

Our presenter will give a look into the arts and culture in the Charlotte community over the decades.

We will discuss the formation of the ASC (Arts and Science Council) to the formation of the Charlotte Arts and Culture Advisory Board. The discussion will include a look at arts funding, arts diversity and the role the community at large in the arts.

A recent release of the State of Arts and Culture in Charlotte produced by the Arts and Culture Advisory Board will also be unveiled.

We will hold back nothing – the good, the bad and the “whatever” of arts and culture in Charlotte. We will end with a view of the future – where should Charlotte’s arts and culture “be” in ten years.

BIOGRAPHY

Kevin L. Patterson, a retired director at IBM, worked for them for 31 years in various technical, sales, management, and executive roles.

Mr. Patterson is very involved in numerous nonprofit organizations. Currently, he is vice chairman of the Charlotte Arts and Culture Advisory Board and the immediate past-chairman and board member of Jazz Arts Charlotte.

He serves on the national board of directors as meetings and conventions chair for 100 Black Men of America, Inc. He has chaired numerous arts organizations including Arts & Science Council, ASC’s North East Advisory Council and the Public Arts Commission.
