Managing Airport Expansion During a Pandemic
Speaker Date: April 23, 2021
Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte’s economic engine, ranks as the nation’s 6th busiest airport and ranked in the top 5 U.S. “megahubs”. It is American Airlines 2 nd largest hub with over 700 daily flights. In a normal year 50 million travelers would travel though our airport but 2020 was different with Covid-19.
However, the low ridership did not halt CLT’s many pronged $2.5 billion master plan for expansion and upgrade which began in 2015 and will conclude in 2035. Included in the plan is Concourse expansion, a new runway, and the marque item: the massive Terminal Lobby expansion, which is four years away from completion.
Mr. Christine will explain how they kept the planes flying when so much else on the ground came to a halt.
